Bishop Hooper Church of England Primary

Believing Together, Achieving Together

School Vision and Christian Ethos

Our Christian Vision

Bishop Hooper is a school where we encourage each member of our inclusive, caring school family to develop educationally, spiritually and morally by living and learning through Christian values so that we achieve our very best. Inspired by God's love, we flourish together in our journey to the fullness of life.

Our school motto 'Believing together, Achieving together' reminds us how our vision helps us to flourish regardless of our spiritual beliefs, religion, culture, identity or heritage.

Our Christian Values were selected by our pupils to reflect the ethos of our school and the Bible teachings that resonate with them. Each value is linked to a month of the year and may also be linked to church calendar festivals and important events. This supports our teaching of the values both through collective worship and curriculum subjects. Our pupils are encouraged to 'live out' our values beyond the time they are in school and so our August value is 'Community'. Our children take out the teaching and learning of our Christian values into the community during school holiday times. Please see our Values in Action photo gallery below for examples of courageous advocacy and community service.

In 2016, The Church of England published a document for school entitled 'Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good' which identifies four strands which are an integral part of how Bishop Hooper CE Primary School serves its pupils and lives its Christian life:

  • Educating for Wisdom, Knowledge and Skills
  • Educating for Hope, Aspiration and Courageous Advocacy
  • Educating for Community, Well-being and Living Well Together
  • Educating for Dignity and Respect

The Ethos Committee of our Governing Body, which includes members of the Governing Body, the Rector, staff and the local community, meets termly as a committee and through link Governor visits to identify how the school can fully meet its vision. It reflects on the school's provision to meet these four strands.

We pride ourselves on our caring Christian ethos which, through its distinctiveness and inclusivity,  encourages independence, self-confidence, tolerance, respect and a sense of responsibility amongst our pupils and adults through the Christian values we explore in our teaching and learning and the worship that we celebrate together.

The Bible passage 'Life in all its fullness' is the theology behind our vision. We are passionate about enabling our entire school family to flourish in the fullness of life through the experiences and ethos that we offer here at Bishop Hooper CE Primary School.

'Life in all its fullness' (John 10:10), the Church of England's vision for education is about 'educating the whole person', what the 1988 Education Reform Act sees as physical and intellectual development united with spiritual, moral and cultural development.
