Believing Together, Achieving Together

Music

The subject leader for Music is Mrs Gittins. If you have any questions related to the teaching and learning of Music, please do get in touch.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”  Plato

“Music education can help spark a child's imagination or ignite a lifetime of passion. When you provide a child with new worlds to explore and challenges to tackle, the possibilities are endless. Music education should not be a privilege for a lucky few, it should be a part of every child's world of possibility.”  Hillary Clinton

Music is a passion of ours at Bishop Hooper School. We are committed to offering a broad and balanced curriculum and recognise that music is vital to engagement, enjoyment and excellence in learning experiences.

All pupils experience listening , appraising, composing and performing through a weekly music lesson which follows the National Curriculum. In addition to this, Key Stage 1 pupils benefit from whole class Recorder or Ocarina lessons each week with Mrs Gittins.

We also offer peripatetic music lessons to pupils from Year 2 to 6. Our three visiting teachers; Mrs Ruth, Mrs Martys and Mr Banks currently offer piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, mini bassoon and guitar lessons.

Our school choir (Year 3 to Year 6) meets weekly to rehearse. We have performed locally, in Ludlow for International Day of Prayer and also, several times in Hereford Cathedral. Most recent performances in Hereford Cathedral (in conjunction with Hereford Cathedral School) have been Faure's Requiem, Words and Music for Remembrance and the Advent service.

We have performed on our own, but also enjoy working on duets with our friends at Pembridge CE Primary School who we have performed with on three occasions, also in Hereford Cathedral.

Our children in Butterflies have enjoyed weekly visits from Shropshire Music Service's outreach team.

We were thrilled to have been recognised for our hard work in building up our musical experiences here at Bishop Hooper by being awarded the prestigious UK Association for Music 'Music Mark' for 2020 and again in 2021.
