Joining our school in Reception or via In-Year Transfer
Welcome to Bishop Hooper CE Primary School!
Whether your child is joining us as a new starter in Reception class, or as an in-year transfer in any other year group, please know that we are thrilled to welcome your family to our lovely school.
Your child's class teacher will set them up with some buddies to show them around school and look after them while they find their feet and make friends in their new class.
If your child is starting with us in Reception class, they will have attended the transition days and become familiar with staff, routines and the other children in their class before the first day of term.
There is lots that you can do at home to support their transition into school and much of this will come via your child's class teacher so it is important to establish communication between home and school very early on. The guidance document below is very useful place to start for information on helping your child to be 'school ready'.
Starting Reception
Joining through in-year transfer or at the start of any year group other than Reception.
Our admin staff and the Admissions department at the Local Authority will help you to secure a place for your child at our school. Please feel free to email or telephone school admin with any questions you may have prior to your child starting at our school. They will be able to help you with everything from uniform and transport to helping set you up with 'Parent Pay' our school/home communications and payment/ and hot lunch ordering system.
It may have been possible for your child to have met their class teacher and peers during a 'taster day', in which case, many first day nerves will be alleviated. If this has not been possible, there's no need to worry, our children are super at welcoming new friends into their class and will look after your child with patience and kindness.
Our school admin will be able to provide you with a copy of our school prospectus if you require one, but much of the information you may/will need can be found on this website. Do have a good look at all the areas and pages so that you get to know our school.
